In Memoriam

Melissa Spearing

We were very saddened to receive news of the sudden passing Melissa Spearing on Aug 19. 2024. Melissa was a force majeure in Canada’s tree seed community. She had an upbringing focused on growing and worked for the Forest Gene Conservation Association before joining the National Tree Seed Centre. She also served as a director for the Canadian Forest Genetics Association and its Tree Seed Working Group.

Melissa’s contributions, interests and connections were extensive. Her love and enthusiasm touched the lives of many people across the country and abroad. We miss you Missy!  Read her obituary here.

CFGA/ACFG’s roots go back to the First Meeting of Tree Breeding and Propagation held in Ottawa in 1937. The mandate and membership of CFGA/ACFG has subsequently expanded to include all forest genetics activities, including tree improvement seed management and conservation.
